Um bilhão de garrafas plásticas, que equivale a cerca de 20 milhões de quilos de plástico, foram retiradas de circulação por meio de ações da Plastic Bank, em diferentes partes do mundo.

“A coleta de um bilhão de garrafas plásticas confirma que podemos reduzir o lixo plástico e, ao mesmo tempo, impulsionar o progresso social por meio de uma economia circular”, diz David Katz, fundador e CEO Plastic Bank.
Plastic Bank tem mais de 320 filiais no Haiti, Filipinas, Indonésia, Brasil e Egito. Com o objetivo de coletar o próximo bilhão de garrafas plásticas, a empresa planeja expandir sua operação no Brasil, com cerca de 10 pontos ainda este ano, além de chegar em países como Camarões e Tailândia em 2021.
A iniciativa opera no Rio de Janeiro, desde 2019, atualmente com nove pontos e três centros de coleta.
